It was miserably hot in the office today, even with all the windows and doors open, and by 4pm, I snapped like a twig. 4.15pm saw me legging it out of the office (I had enough flexitime to do it), galloping home, whooshing through the flat like a whirling dervish, getting changed and digging out a bucket and spade from the back of a little-used cupboard and then I was off again, heading towards Southend-on-Sea.

Verily and foresooth, I declared, I will spend a couple of hours on a beach today or else!

And I did :D

It took me longer to get there than I'd planned - it was rush hour and the traffic was miserable. I keep forgetting about the hideous roadworks on the M25 eastbound, you'd think I'd have learned by now. In the end, I bailed out, headed north and picked up the A414 to Chelmsford and went that way, which I should probably have done from the get go. Ah well, I'll know another time :D

Got to Southend by 7pm and after a quick pit stop at the first public loos I saw, I moseyed up the seafront until I found a car park at a fairly central spot, parked and then scampered happily onto the beach :) There was stone skimming and aimless digging amd target practice with pebbles and shells but I left the bucket and spade in the car - totally the wrong sort of sand for sandcastles dammit, far too stoney. It was just lovely to be on the beach, with the sun setting behind me, seagulls squawking, sky like blue glass above me. Bliss.

And now I'm home, having braved the M25 coming back and doing the journey in about half the time. Have learned things about what to do if I fancy doing something crazy like that again. I know Kent has sandy beaches, I don't know much about the Essex beaches and those further north. I think I'll have to do some exploring. Oh..woe :D

Really, really looking forward to the weekend and my break in Margate now. I must remember I'm a water-loving mousey and I need to go stare at it from time to time and to play, it's good for my soul.
