The following was on our internal e-bulletin board today:

"Firefighters scale Everest by ladder for charity"

Hands up if you thought that meant they were lugging ladders up the actual mountain? Yeh, me too, which is why I thought something was odd and checked out the article. Turns out no-one's leaving England - there's going to be a charity ladder climb this Saturday, where during the course of the day they will climb a fire ladder approximately 700 times totalling a height of around 8,848 meters, which is the same height as Everest. Which is still bloody impressive but not quite what the headline promised :D

(Incidentally, the money raised will be split between the Firefighters Charity, Alzheimer's Research UK, Bone Cancer Research Trust and the Isabel Hospice. Anyone wanting to donate can do so at www.charitygiving.co.uk/paulblande17070)

My sense of humour, allow me to show it to you :D

Sooo, you remember the Boxes O'Doom? Suuuure you do :) Well I had to do my first bit of serious archiving for a while today, 28 folders of old school budget shares neatly stuffed into 14 boxes and squeezed into our tiny storage room. (Which got full again, but that's a whole other rant.)

The system is childishly simple - we get printed labels from our Records Management guys, which have a long number on 'em and a barcode. This is what the RM guys use to track the boxes when they're shipped off site. Because the number is long and doesn't really trip off the tongue, we have our own reference number which is written on each box. This makes finding a particular box in a sea of boxes a LOT easier when all you have to do is read the big, fat number written on the side as opposed to squinting at a label.

So today..no, wait, this is going to be easier as a show and tell :D Cut to spare your flist - Image intensive!

My sense of humour is so mature... )

No-one's noticed yet....I really hope someone wants that box for something soon :D

Look at picture 8. If that isn't the definitive picture of "dogs and owners looking alike" I dunno what is :D

Ahh that Friday feeling! And I've come by it honestly this week, having completed my first week of work in three months. And yes, I'm shattered :P But it's going well and next week I'll up my hours to six a day, see how that goes.

We did the Sekrit Santa today - I've got ShitStirrer! No, I don't know why we had to include her when she doesn't work in the office any more. Drat! So now I've got to think of something she'd like...and no, I'm not allowed to booby trap it :P We've also put up the Christmas decorations in the office today - our tree is so blinged out that I'm taking the camera in on Monday to nab a picture of the hideous spectacle! The tinsel and other decorations in the office has made it look nice, I think we all felt it was a bit more like "home" now :)

Funny moment of the day - I did the 7 Days news quiz on the BBC website, as is my wont. They rank your score in three categories, always relevant to one of the questions in the quiz. I nearly fell off my chair giggling when I saw today's options and the rank I achieved. It's never been more appropriate!

Cut to spare the flist )

It was one of Those Days today at work, where we had an attack of the sillies mid-afternoon. PartyGirl started it, naturally, by recounting one of the few jokes she can remember. To wit:

A group of tourists were in Australia and being given a guide tour of the bush. Suddenly they hear the familiar strains of a pop song .."Dancing Queeeen, young and sweet, only seventeeeeeen!". "Oooh!" says the guide, "that's an Abba-rigonal!"

Well, when we'd finished groaning, she was inspired to dig out a Bloke's Joke Book that was in her desk drawer (no, I don't know why it was there, I didn't feel like asking :)) and started reading out various jokes of very varied quality until even TooBrightTies was lured out of his office to listen in :)

One of the jokes that got a big giggle was "What's the definition of a man? A vibrator with a wallet." To which PG commented "I've ALWAYS said that if vibrators could mow the lawn, we wouldn't need men anyway." And when the giggling had died down, she read the best joke of the day - "How do you spot the blind man in a nudist colony? It isn't hard...."

The afternoon pretty much went downhill from there, really :D

For anyone that's cursed London Underground at all, ever....

You need working speakers to hear it and this is violently not safe for work or those of a delicate disposition :)
