Gosh, I do love a lazy Sunday, curled up on the sofa watching sports :) The cat loves it too, he spent ages curled up next to me this afternoon, getting oodles of fuss and attention. Cute.

So far, I've watched two soccer games and an American football game (the one being played in London - one of these years, I'll get to one of those games, dammit!) And now I'm going to have a nap, because I want to watch at least some of the baseball tonight, which won't start until midnight. At least with the daylight savings thing, we're only 4 hours ahead of EST, which helps a lot :) For a whole week, anyway :D

Keep forgetting to blog, I get sidetracked so easily.

Friday - sucked beyond words. Had a bit of an upset at work, not helped by the fact I was stuffed full of cold and in the first day of my period. Not a happy combo. Also discovered that apparently my work colleagues don't like me throwing my snotty tissues in the bin - not hygienic or something. No, don't ask, I don't understand it either and I don't care. I heard it in a round about way and I am sufficiently ticked off that it's just made me job search harder. So in a way, they're doing me a favour.

Talking of job searches, I put up my CV on monster.co.uk a while back. Finally getting some hits now, lots of phone calls over the past few days from agencies with either specific posts in mind or interested in having me as a client. I'm all for that. Got an appointment with one agency on Friday, may have one with another agency one lunchtime next week.

Saturday I felt well enough (just) to miss the rugby (waaah!) to go and meet Rik and Carol in London and scoff amazing Italian food. It was a fairly short visit - they were knackered after a week in London while Carol had been organising a conference and were due to head home that afternoon. And I wasn't 100 per cent and wanted to head back to my duvet. But it was good to see them and we had a pleasant couple of hours catching up :)

Sunday was spent seriously loafing.

Yesterday was back to the grind, but with the postal strike, my job's got a lot easier. Of course, it'll go to hell in a handbasket tomorrow but never mind, I'm mostly caught up now anyway. Re: the re-organisation, there was another meeting on Monday, this time just SFU and a couple of the managers involved in the re-shuffle. Questions were answered, mostly, and I think they all feel a bit happier now, having a better idea of the rationale behind the changes (even if they don't agree) and also how they can influence the final decision.

Me? I don't care. My goal is to be out of there by Christmas if not sooner. Oh yes. Unless - well, there COULD be another post created to work on the Nursery Education Grant. *twitches* Dammit, I'd like to do that. Hmf. We'll see.

On a happier note - AHAHAHAHAHAHA! The Yankees lost the ADLS to the Cleveland Indians. I'm happy :D It's not so bad when your team suffers if your hated rivals suffer too :D

I wouldn't say the baseball lasted a long time last night, but I had to have breakfast before I went to bed cos I was hungry....

17 innings, New York Mets? Good lord, don't do that again for a long time, eh? You're lucky you won, busters.....

*chugs tea, tries to wake up for the Wimbledon Men's Final* It's hard work being a sports fan, y'know ;)

Went out with the ever lovely [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel last night to see Shrek the Third. It's not a bad movie, but I don't think it reaches anything like the heights of the first two. But there were some good moments which made me gigglefit and it was a perfectly amiable way to pass an hour and a half. Well, in our case it was an hour and fifteen minutes - [livejournal.com profile] thalinoviel got lost trying to get to a friend's house and was a smidge late. We had coffee afterwards at Frankie and Benny's and gossiped happily for an hour before wending our way home. We're now plotting an evening for Harry Potter which may involve careful transport arrangements so that we can sample some of Frankie and Benny's delicious looking cocktails *weg*

There are technical gremlins standing between a Mitchy and her baseball. This is Not A Good Thing. The situation is as follows:-

I have a subscription to mlb.com which lets me watch live baseball games on my compy. This has been working quite happily until yesterday, when my browser was playing merry havoc and kept crashing. Finally, the PC also crashed, possibly in sympathy. When I eventually got rebooted and sorted, I could no longer view the baseball.

The way it works is, I click on a link on mlb.com next to the game I want to watch and a new window opens, where I log in with my registration info. I then get taken to the player window, with the game playing in a resizeable window. The embedded player is Windows Media Player. Now what happens is I go through all of that still but at the end all I get is a black screen and the usual player options. No sound, no pic, nuffink. Right clicking brings up a list of menu options one of which is "Error Details" and what this is telling me is the following:-

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").

Help! I have no idea what to do to convince it it's the same bloody file type it's been playing quite happily for a couple of years :P

ETA: And we have lift off again. I upgraded Windows Media Player, meticulously combed mlb.com and found a FAQ that was actually useful, made sure my player settings were what they should be and rebooted. Seems to work now! Yay!!

So I stayed up last night to watch the New York Mets play game two of the NLCS (biiiig important series, winner goes onto the World Series). It was a slow game - well, it's never fast at the best of times but trust me, it was really slow - and it didn't finish until gone 5am. Gnnng. And we lost. GNNNNNG!! That's the Mets for you, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I will, of course, be doing it all again tonight. I'm such a sap. God knows what my sleep patterns are going to be like next week.

Last week was pretty uneventful. We were supposed to have a team meeting at work where one of the items TooBrightTies had added to the agenda was the restructuring of the division our unit is in and how it'll affect us. Never happened though cos he was in meetings all day. Typical. I wish he hadn't put it up on the agenda until he was sure he could be at the team meeting, it just makes the more nervous types restless and fretful about what's going to happen. Me, I figure something will come out in the wash, regardless - I'm a temp, I'm flexible. Those that have been in their jobs for 10 years or more tend to be more twitchy. Ah well, we'll see.

I was supposed to give blood on Tuesday - didn't happen, I was too anaemic. *sighs* Did the little "We'll stabbity stab your finger and put a drop of blood in this tube" test and my blood decided it didn't want to sink, at least not before rising right to the top of the tube. So I got stuck with a needle anyway, so that they could do a proper test and it turns out I was just a couple of points below their safety margin and it's nothing they're worried about. They were ever so sorry they couldn't take my blood that day but assured me I was free to try in three or four months time when they were next around. Fairy nuff. Annoying though, I was all psyched up for it (I hate needles) and then after all that, nuffink! Hmf!

I have spent most of this week catching up on the US shows I got behind on because I couldn't download eps. I'm now bang up to date on all of them but keeping track is going to be a bitch. I know I have to get Grey's Anatomy on Fridays, Numb3rs and BSG on Saturdays and House (I think) on Wednesdays. I keep forgetting when Cold Case, Without A Trace and NCIS are on. *grumbles* I really need to draw up a list *eyes [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 and makes notes to ask her to go through a TV Guide and help her plot*

*yawwwwwwns* So, I hear you ask (not), why are you up before noon if you didn't get to bed until gone 5am? Good question. I had to scamper over to Welwyn to pick up my new inhaler from the chemist because they close at lunchtime. Been trying to get over there all week but kept getting foiled by things like getting into work so late I couldn't leave early enough or throwing up so violently I had to go home to sort me and my car out :P Jinxed I tells ya! Jinxed! Anyway, I've got my new preventer inhaler (druuuuugs!) and got a head start on the next prescription I need to fill by putting it into the surgery on my way past this morning. So with a bit of luck I'll be able to pick that up before next Saturday, God willin' and the creek don't rise.

Sadly, going out woke me up more than I wanted to be woken up. So I'm downloading BSG right now and I shall watch Numb3rs and Grey's Anatomy until I feel sleepy again. There will be a major nap in my future, I can tell. Oh yes.

How are you all this Saturday morning afternoon?

*hugs her flist*

Deary me, what a day!

PartyGirl went home sick mid-morning (if she's given me any of her germs, I'll kill her) so that left me to deal with the Megatastic Pile of Forms that arrived in the morning's post. Deadline date is tomorrow - god knows what tomorrow's post is gonna be like. With that in mind, I stubbornly ploughed through every.single.sodding.form and query until it was all done. 6.30pm I scampered off home, finally. Ahh well, it's extra pences and a clean desk tomorrow is worth a bit too :)

Found out yesterday that I didn't get my holiday pay in last week's salary. No bloody wonder I've got no money! So I squeaked loudly at the agency who, in turn, applied the ClueBat to their payroll office. They've promised the money will be there Friday. It had better be, I have to pay my mortgage!

Good news though! ShitStirrer's been off sick for two days. Hehehehehehe. PartyGirl actually skipped down the corridor with joy yesterday morning :P It is a much happier office when SS ain't there though.

So now I'm watching the baseball - Lets Go Mets! - and hoping they win soon so I can go to bed :)

*yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwns* OK, it was fun, but staying up to 5am watching NCIS and the Mets these days means I'll need a week to recuperate. 's me age y'know.

Hee! Guess what I'm going to this evening!

http://www.battleproms.com/

200 cannons? Fireworks? That's my idea of orchestral music *cackles*

Took Thursday off work to catch up on sleep loss due to the heat. Slept like a log for 5 hours so I clearly needed it. Talk about last minute though, I basically rang at 8.45am and said "Hi TooTall! I know it's short notice but can I take today off as a holiday?" And he said yes, bless 'im, cos he knows darn well I had bugger all to do :)

*pokes bank account* Get out of the overdraft dammit! I must get a statement and find out where the damn money went.

NCIS witterings, S2 spoilers of a major sort )

Hmm. Clearly I need NCIS quotes and icons. I'l have to give the matter some though. Though thanks to a very bored [livejournal.com profile] lithium_doll there's now a handy icon maker available that's fun to use :) Hee!

http://www.alter-idem.com/toy/icon/

Oh, talking of LD, random exchange from last night's AIM conversation (we were talking about the shallow and pretty that is SGA at the time):-

MitchFC: What's another word for "even shallower than shallow"?
LithiumDoll: "Steve"
Mitchy: *spews tea new record distance*
LithiumDoll: *does victory lap*

And now! *cues drum roll* More NCIS! With added breakfast!
