The TempWithNoName returned to work today, she's been proper poorly with that 'orrible flu thing going around. She was a little fragile but managed to last out the day.

We were gossiping at lunchtime and the advertisement of PartyGirl's job came up. Turns out TTWNN has no intention of applying for it. Which is interesting. Apparently she feels her job is stressful enough, she wouldn't want to try the one one rung up the ladder. She also had no problems with the concept of me applying. I still don't think I'd get it but I'm happy to give it a whirl. Just gotta keep my eyes open for the advert.

Got to work earlier today, despite driving into a hideous traffic jam on the A414. Fortunately, the only side turning before Hertford wasn't blocked and I was able to bail out rapidly and take the B1000 and the back roads to County Hall. The jam ran from Hertford town centre back to WGC. *boggles* Apparently the M25 was closed or something.

FogHorn gave me a new ongoing job today, monitoring a particular suspense account. This is going to be My Job from now on. Also, she mentioned in passing that Closed Schools might be something that I'll be dealing with more in the future. Hm. Well the account was interesting to wrangle so that looks like it might be a fun chore. Closed schools are, I know, a pain in the arse, so I'm not looking forward to that bit so much. However, they are keeping their word about giving me work of substance and not just office scut work, so fair do's.

It's bitterly cold tonight, driving home was unpleasant as there was thick freezing fog. Ewww. I was glad I got out of work at 5, I'm sure it would have been worse later.

I'm watching a fascinating programme on BBC, The Victorian Farm. Three foolish mortals are going to live on a real, working Victorian farm for a year. It belongs to a geezer whose family have been on the land since the 1200's, and the current owner is a keen agricultural historian. They've fixed up an old Victorian worker's cottage, got the coal range working, ploughed their first field and now the woman is making chutneys and pickles for storing in winter. This looks like it's going to be a good series :) Oooh now they're making cider!! *slurps*

Ya know... I just love reading your posts.. For the American in me has a blast trying to decifer the lingo difference. And the names you use for folks are hysterical. We have similar programs of "frontier and colonial" living here in the states. Love it!!

*grins* Let me guess, "geezer" gave you a moment or two of pause? :)

No - we use geezer over here too. Sometimes liberally..LOL. I am amused by the names you're using - Foghorn, TTWNN and assorted monikers. "Boggles", gobsmacked and spellings of similar words are amusements too. Programme/program. So I reserve the request for periodic translations..deal?

Oh yes, no problem! [livejournal.com profile] jenni411 and I plaintively ask each other for US/UK translations all the time! :D
