Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (No Spoilers)
Well goodness, movie critics are a miserable lot. The reviews I've read of this have been lacklustre to say the least, but frankly I found it to be a very, very enjoyable two hours. No, it's not going to be Spiderman or Pirates, but it has its own charms - it's summer froth to be sure, but darn fun summer froth.
thalinoviel had been texting me about seeing this movie for two weeks so I finally bullied her into picking a date. I have to say, it was a good choice of film. No brains required, plenty of "oooh!" and "aaah!" and "hahahahahah!" which is all I ask of a summer fluff movie :)
Seriously, there were some great action bits and some really good funny bits that had me and da Janey giggling helplessly (intentionally funny bits, I should say). Granted, I'm easily amused, but we weren't the only ones in the cinema snickering :) And yes, there's some ropey CGI in places, but when they get it right, hooo boy!! And the Silver Surfer is GORGEOUS! Seriously, I want a huge poster of him on my wall now :P
Is it worth seeing on a big screen? On balance, yes, I think so. You're gonna see the ropey CGI more easily but you'll appreciate all the Silver Surfer and some of the bigger stunts way more too :)
After the movie, Janey and I stopped into a nearby restaurant for coffee (me) and tea (her) and nattered happily until past closing time. Nice place (it's a Frankie and Benny's) and I'm going to go there again. The atmosphere was very relaxed and we weren't harassed about the time at all :) Great way to wind down the evening.
*streetches* Yeh, good way to start the weekend that, I'm a happy mousey.
