Had a lovely evening in London meeting Rik and Carol last night. The weather was vile but stout boots and a good umbrella kept the Mitchy dry. I am happy to report the walk to WGC station went without a hitch and I was fine, so that's good. The exercise is clearly paying off.
We went to the Kingsway branch of Belgo's for a change (we usually go to the Covent Garden Centraal) and found a smaller restaurant but a slightly different menu. Busy place though, which explains why Belgo's has two branches a stone's throw from each other. Rik and Carol were slightly late but that was ok, it gave me time to glare at the menu and try and whittle my main course choices down from six to one :D
In the end I treated myself to the rib eye steak with peppercorn sauce served with frites and a side order of the red cabbage cooked in raspberry beer. The steak was divine and frites were as delicious as ever. The cabbage was tasty enough that I was able to lure Rik into tasting a second forkful even though he doesn't like cabbage! Carol also had the steak, but with garlic sauce, and Rik had the extremely tasty looking wild mushroom tartlet, which I may have to try myself sometime.
I had my eye on the berry jelly made from raspberry beer for dessert but was told it was off :( However, it was served with a peach sorbet and, wanting something light, I asked if I could have that on its own. They were happy to do this and told us they would charge us for a children's dessert as the sorbet was a very small portion. Well, both Carol and I happily went for this option and when it was served, to our surprise they'd added a pear poached in some combination of berry juice and (we suspect) one of the fruit beers. It was delicious! And they STILL only charged us for a kiddies dessert, all three of us, even though Rik had a proper dessert. We do like Belgo's :D
It was lovely to see Rik and Carol again and not just because they brought me Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (gerroff! They're mine!). We worked out that it might have been as long as 12 months since we'd last seen each other although we're not convinced. Promises were made not to leave it that long again.
I had no problems getting home and was back indoors (having got a cab from WGC station - too late and too wet to walk) by 10.30. Oh and I'm happy to report a raspberry beer and an apple beer were duly slurped and appeared to give me no problems whatsoever :D So alcohol is ok, it would seem. Hurrah!
Today I have loafed in front of the sport, as is my wont, and I am currently indulging in some Changeling RP. It's good to stretch the imaginative muscles now and again :D
So how was your Sunday, folks?
